The Great Outdoors
This weekend some of our college friends invited us to join them and their two sons to camp on Lake Tawakoni. We had a great time hiking, fishing, playing with the kids and catching up with each other. (Unfortunately, the camera was acting goofy and most of the pictures came out poorly - including the ones of Reagan's first fish.) Thanks to Keith, Rebecca, Jacob and Jonathan for a wonderful weekend!
Starting off the morning with the breakfast of champions - poptarts and powdered sugar donuts. Gotta have our energy!
Comparing camping gear.

Baiting the hooks - I quickly nominated myself historian for this activity.

Reagan loved watching the worms wiggle and wanted everyone else to hold one, but he too exempted himself from worm handling.
Reagan had been talking up fishing ever since we told him about this camping trip. He had been asking about every thirty minutes for the past week when he was going to get to catch a fish. Now that the time had finally come, I am not sure it was quite what he had expected. John tried to show him that you held the pole until you had a fish, THEN you reel it in. Reagan just wanted to reel in the line and quickly lost interest. After running around, climbing dirt hills and screaming about the dragonflies buzzing his head, he came back to try. John (who had been trying without luck to catch anything - sorry, honey) handed the pole to Reagan. Reagan started jerking the pole and line around like he was Brad Pitt in "A River Runs Through It" and lo and behold, not 15 seconds later the kid had caught a fish - all by himself! John helped him reel it in. Instead of posing with the fish like a proud fisherman, he took off for the dirt hills again. His buddy Jacob threw the fish back for him. Ten minutes later, Reagan decided he wanted to try again. John handed the pole over to Reagan. He tried his same scrappy, quasi-fly fishing approach and 30 seconds later, he was reeling in another fish!

Watching the big kids play baseball.
Reagan having his morning cup of joe.

The only fishing method that had greater results than Reagan's was created by Ernie. While fishing with Bert, Ernie began to yell, "Here fishy, fishy, fishy!" Lo and behold a fish jumped into the boat time after time. I tried this to no avail, except the shhhs of those around me.
Reagan wasn't the only former president to go fishing this weekend...though this former Commander-in-Chief had a larger result.

(seriously, check it out)
PS - I like the shirt you're sporting Amy. I'm glad John supported our state's failing economy while he was here.
